An action sequence from my new Wattpad Novel

Note: Rao is taking the dragon squad entrance exam. The fight is being played in a closed arena. And Niso is an elf-lady.

Chapter 11: The Goldilocks
1
"Okay," Niso said and the platform floated upward, "Let the fight began."
With her voice ringing in their heads, Rao and Mark bolted toward each other, starting to shower each other with punches and kicks. Niso just watched them from her floating platform, the two dragon guards beside her taking notes.
"Today is your bad day," Mark said after ramming his fist into Rao's gut.
Rao grimaced. "I don't think so," he said and grabbed Mark's arm and himself started falling backwards. This one for making my school life a hell.
"What the.." Mark was lifted off the ground and was hurled into the air, the arena revolving around him. And suddenly, his back hit the hard, stone floor and all the wind ran out of his lungs.
"These kids are fighting like enemies," the dragon guard, who was taking notes, commented. "Are they trying to kill each other?"
Niso said nothing. She just looked at her watch while the two boys got back to their feet.
"Was that supposed to hurt?" Mark said, his hand behind his back, rubbing it.
"If that didn't hurt then what's up with that ugly expression?" Rao asked, ignoring the pain in his gut.
Mark sneered, and the hand that was behind his back came forward, a purple, glowing ball of energy floating over the palm. "Huh." Rao had to do a backflip to save his legs from third-degree burns. And when he landed back on his feet, he saw another purple ball coming toward his face. He fell flat on his back as a purple flash of light zoomed over him, making him feel the wind on his face, and then he rolled over to his right while another flash shattered the stone floor, sending shrapnel flying into his hair.
Niso gazed intently while Mark sent one mana blast after another and Rao just ran in circles to dodge them. "Yeah, they are definitely trying to kill each other," she said.
"So you haven't not only grown stronger but faster too," Mark said, gritting his teeth, and began making a large orb of energy.
"I'm flattered," Rao said, running around, his eyes locked on the growing ball of mana. I can't let him throw that one at me or I'll be done for good. He changed his direction and began running toward Mark, at the same time pulling out the sword Belfan had given to him. Rao's rapid footfalls echoed across the huge hall as he tore his way toward Mark who had also bolting toward him, with the large orb of mana floating in his right hand.
"You two. Stop." Niso's voice echoed in Rao's head. But he didn't want to stop. Not now. This was his chance. He now had the strength to do the thing he always wanted to do. To fight back.
The one with more speed will win this fight, Rao thought and swung his blade that gleamed in the purple light. Mark cursed and shot his right hand forward.
Both braced themselves for the pain that didn't come. Rao's and Mark's eyes went wide.
"Didn't I tell you both to stop," Niso said, standing between the two boys, holding their wrists away so that they won't hurt each other.
When did she come down? Rao thought, not believing what his eyes were showing. He never saw her coming!
"I've seen enough. You two may leave," she said, slowly letting go of their wrists.
Mark grunted and rubbing his wrist, walked toward the exit. Rao sheathed his sword and followed him to exit.
Why did she interfere? He was disappointed. He had not fought. He had just dodged! They would never take him. Never.
He spent most of the afternoon outside the headquarters, waiting for the results. He saw Hanabi walking out of her fight with a few bruises on her arms and legs, and her cousin, Nendre, walked out without a single bruise. Forget about bruises, not a single strand of hair out of place. More people went in. More came out, tired and a little hurt. The daysun slowly crawled toward the west and the sky started turning red.
Dread continued to pile up on Rao's heart.
